Mentor Matching

About the Program

Momentum offers mentor matching as a free service to our community. Studies show that successful mentoring relationships lead to greater success on a personal and professional level. Mentoring women is especially important in order to see more women in leadership roles.

“25 percent of employees who participated in a mentoring program had a salary-grade change, compared to only 5 percent of the workers who did not participate.” — Forbes, Women Need Mentors Now More Than Ever.

Over the years Momentum has facilitated more than a thousand mentoring relationships. Our mentors are some of the most distinguished professional women in the state. They come from a wide range of industries, from manufacturing to healthcare, and a variety of roles, from CEO to scientist. Many are alumnae of the Momentum program, others are friends of Momentum willing to generously give their time and expertise.

To build and strengthen those who serve in our network, Momentum has a highly successful mentoring program that operates on three levels:

Each leadership class participant has the opportunity to be paired with a senior mentor. Momentum works with participants to identify specific areas in which they wish to grow. We then search our network to find the best possible match based on skill-set, life experiences, and personality. Upon graduation each of our classes receive training on how to effectively mentor others.

Our leadership classes are divided into smaller co-mentoring groups that meet outside of class days at least once a month. This peer-to-peer mentoring is a very effective way for participants to share experiences, learn from one another, and build lasting relationships.

Momentum’s mentor matching service is free and open to any woman in the community who wishes to find a mentor or be a mentor. Momentum partners with local universities, young professional groups, and nonprofits focused on women & girls to match our graduates with mentees.

Find a

Mentor

One of the hardest things about starting a mentor relationship is finding a mentor. Momentum can certainly help.

Our Mentoring Manager reviews the targeted development areas outlined in the mentee’s request form.  Each mentee will then have a one on one conversation to gain a better understanding of each individual request.  The Mentoring Manager then reviews potential mentor matches in our network of more than four hundred leaders to find the best mentor that aligns with a mentee’s goals.  Each mentoring pair receives guidance and resources from Momentum along the mentoring journey to ensure success. While Momentum cannot guarantee that you will be matched with a mentor, we have a very high success rate in pairing mentors with mentees.

We ask that mentor matches commit to five or six months and work on specific objectives.

Be a

Mentor

At Momentum, we believe that everyone has talents, skills, experiences, and connections that can benefit others.  We are all a step ahead of someone else with our life experiences.  You can make an impact in our community by sharing your talents and experiences as a mentor.

We welcome those in and outside of the Momentum network who believe in the strong value of mentoring and want to pay it forward to join our mentoring program.  You will make a difference.

If you are interested in joining our program as a Mentor, fill out our Mentor with Momentum form to tell us a little about yourself.  Our Mentor Coordinator will contact you to discuss next steps.  You will always have an opportunity to discuss and confirm a match before it is finalized.

Mentoring has always been a core component of Momentum’s programming and we are so excited to share the strength of our network with women across the state.

My mentor helped me set clear goals for my professional development and leveraged her proprietary strength assessment to identify my strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement.

In addition to defining goals and identifying strengths, she also helped me actualize a few of my goals, including improving my interview and presentation skills. Through her assistance, I was able to land the job of my dreams. I am so, so grateful for her intellect, candid feedback and guidance, and mentoring support.
