Christy Harris Lemak, PhD, FACHE

Christy Harris Lemak is chair of UAB’s Department of Health Services Administration, home to eight educational programs, including the nation’s #2-ranked graduate health administration program and highly regarded programs in health informatics, healthcare quality and safety, and health services research. Christy’s research includes projects to examine pay-for-performance programs for physicians, exploring Medicaid policy impacts hospitals and health plans, and the relationships among organizations. Christy is currently investigating issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion in health care in order to create and support organizations in which all health care leaders can thrive.  Her research has been published in many industry outlets.

Christy is currently a Board member of the Commission on the Accreditation for Health Management Education, Community Hospital Corporation (Plano, TX), and the National Center for Healthcare Leadership.  Christy is Past Chair of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration and the Academy of Management Health Care Management Division. Prior to UAB, Christy was a faculty member at the University of Michigan, where she also completed her PhD in Health Services Organization and Policy. She resides in Homewood with her husband and two children.
