Marsha Sampson Johnson Marsha Sampson Johnson is a writer, speaker, and transformational leadership advocate with a personal mission to make all work environments more diverse and inclusive.
In 2010, she retired as a senior executive with Fortune 200 energy giant Southern Company. While at Southern, most notably Alabama Power Company, she held various executive level positions, including: Senior Vice President Human Resources and Chief Diversity Officer; Vice President Talent Management; Vice President Division Operations; and Vice President Customer Service and Call Center Operations. Her work and life experiences have fostered a passion for leadership development and mentoring.
Marsha is known for her keen insights and high impact presentations on leadership and navigating careers. Her Lessons from the Corporate Jungle appeared biweekly in the Birmingham Times, she is published on CNN Opinion.com, and featured in the Empowering Women Leaders series on YouTube. She routinely connects with global audiences and her website www.marshasampsonjohnson.com is a vehicle for dynamic mentoring and learning from others.
Marsha’s leadership and professional journey started with employment as a Community Center Manager for the City of Jacksonville, Florida. Other positions held include Personnel and Benefits Specialist for Westinghouse Electric Corporation’s Offshore Power Systems; Assistant Campaign Director with United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta; and consultant with Coleman Management Consultants. She is a graduate of Jacksonville University (Florida) and Harvard University Graduate School of Business – Advanced Management/International Senior Managers Program. She also completed the Executive Accounting and Finance Program at the Wharton School of Business.
Marsha is an alumna of titled Leadership programs in Jacksonville, Atlanta, Mobile, Birmingham, and Alabama. She has served on numerous nonprofit boards and served on the Board of Governors at Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. She is a Global Director of the International Women’s Forum and a director of IWF Georgia.
