Session: Lessons from the C-Suite – a panel discussion

Leaders who have the desire to make it to the top of their organizations need to know how to get there. They want to understand what obstacles are in front of them and how best to avoid or overcome them. This group of executives will share what worked for them and what they’d recommend for others who want a shot at the top spots. Moderated by Michele Elrod.  Panelists are Wendy Evesque, Kierstin Cates Kennedy, Joe Hampton and Michael Patterson.

About Joe:

After serving Spire customers and our diverse communities for more than 20 years, Joe Hampton was named President of Spire’s Alabama and Mississippi natural gas utilities in December 2018. Prior to his current role, he served as Vice President of Operations for Spire’s western Missouri utility.

In this role, Joe returned to Birmingham where he began his career at Spire as an engineering intern while completing his bachelor’s degrees in physics and electrical engineering. He has held numerous leadership positions including all aspects of service, construction and distribution operations, economic development, sales, and community development.

As a University of Alabama graduate with a bachelor’s in electrical engineering, Joe also holds a physics degree from Stillman College and a MBA from Troy University. From an early age the seed of charity and servant leadership was planted.  This desire has led Joe to offer his skills, time, and heart to many worthy organizations – including INROADS, a leadership development organization focusing on students from underserved communities that created a pathway to Alagasco (now Spire) for him.

In addition, Joe gives his time to board service to worthy organizations in our community.  He currently holds Board memberships with the United Way of Central Alabama, Birmingham Business Alliance, PARCA (Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama), EDPA (Economic Development Partnership of Alabama), Birmingham Zoo, Habitat for Humanity Birmingham, Leadership Birmingham, Stillman College, Lawson State Community College Foundation and A G Gaston Boys and Girls Club.

Joe spends his free time with his lovely family and coaching youth sports.
