Birmingham Leadership Program

About the Program

For more than 20 years, Momentum has delivered training, resources, and a network for Birmingham’s high-level leaders to achieve their goals. More than 550 women have traveled the path of self-discovery, vision casting, action planning and community connection to become the best version of themselves.

We know the demands on women leaders are many. Everyone wants your time, talent, and attention, at work and at home, yet you are often unappreciated and under-valued. At the start of our program, it’s common to hear women say they are tapped-out, overwhelmed, and frustrated at work and at home.

Momentum’s process for advancing women leaders is truly transformative. By nurturing both personal and professional growth, honing business skills, and building lifelong relationships, participants become equipped, confident, and inspired to reach new goals.

Participant Criteria

A selection committee of Momentum alumnae selects 25-30 participants from the application pool of some of Alabama’s top women leaders. The committee looks for leaders with varying backgrounds, professions, and civic experiences to ensure that each class is rich in diversity of thought. Each year we receive far more applications than we can accept, and many qualified applicants may be deferred. We encourage these applicants to apply again the following year. There is no cost to submit an application.

The following is the general profile of the target participant:

  • Holds a minimum of 10-years of high level professional or civic experience in her career and community
  • Possesses significant management experience
  • Demonstrates leadership in high-level projects or initiatives
  • Has a strong commitment to personal and professional growth

Participating in Momentum provided me with an opportunity to learn new leadership approaches, improve my professional development skills, and network with inspiring women leaders. This program equipped me with not only new skills but with a network of friends to support me along the way.

Mary Beth Briscoe, CFO University Hospital & UAB Medicine, Momentum Class 2017

Momentum taught me to advocate for myself without guilt or hesitation. I also acquired an empowering network of wonderful women who are open, honest, willing to share experiences and provide encouragement. Momentum is an outstanding program that yields great benefits to those who are open to the process.

Ira Hodges, National Director – Internal Audit, Encompass Health, Momentum Class 2017

Momentum provided an invaluable opportunity to connect with professional women and hear their stories of success, ambition, efforts, and concerns. It was an empowering experience that motivated me to invest in myself.

Dana Nolan, Head of Investor Relations, Regions, Momentum Class 2013
