LaToya Anderson

Mrs. Latoya Anderson, a Birmingham native, married to Felando Anderson and the proud mother of an active and intelligent 7-year-old daughter, Londyn Reign Anderson. She is a dedicated educator and counselor with 21 years of experience, including 18 years within the Jefferson County School System. A graduate of Alabama A&M and the University of West Alabama, she has been recognized as a multi-year Teacher of the Year and Jefferson County’s Elementary School Counselor of the Year. She currently serves as a high school counselor at Pinson Valley High School in Birmingham, AL. Her professional journey has afforded her the opportunity to teach in diverse settings, including Huntsville, Kentucky, and Alaska.
Known for her big heart and sharp wit, Mrs. Latoya Anderson is more than just an award-winning School Counselor; she is a champion for children. Driven by the belief that students thrive when they feel truly cared for, Mrs. Anderson founded Girls Aspiring with a Purpose (GAP) in 2013, a mentoring organization designed to empower young girls to become ambitious and fearless through education, character development, mentorship, and community involvement. She and her team provide monthly workshops, cultural enrichment, academic support, and community service opportunities. What sets G.A.P Mentoring apart is their consistent, intentional presence.
Under her leadership, the mentoring program has secured over $75,000 in grants and impacted more than 200 girls. She is known for her infectious optimism and her commitment to serving others through both her career and her church. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.. She balances her professional expertise with a great sense of humor and a deep devotion to her family, her faith, and her community. Whether she’s teaching Bible lessons at church or organizing a community event, she is known for her infectious energy, her loyalty, and her ability to build lasting, meaningful relationships.
