Debra Lewis, partner in Balch & Bingham’s Birmingham office, is a member of the Banking & Financial Services Practice. She possesses an unyielding commitment to protecting her clients’ interests and helping them prosper. She serves as counsel to various businesses and corporations, including national, regional, and community banks and real estate development firms, and is recognized for her sophisticated approach and dedicated awareness of emerging trends that impact the industries she represents. Debra’s practices include a wide array of regulatory, compliance, and transactional matters, including Dodd-Frank compliance, mergers and acquisitions, real estate lending and development, and bank facilities transactions. She possesses a deep understanding of how institutions should perform risk assessments and negotiate contracts with third party vendors. She enjoys collaborating with her clients, many of whom are thought-leaders in their industry.

 

Debra has chaired the firm’s Partnership Committee and Workplace Flexibility Committee and is the firm’s Retention and Engagement Officer. Additionally, she is a member of the Executive, Compensation, Premises, Recruiting and Associates Committees. Debra also holds leadership roles with the American Bar Association, National Association of Bond Lawyers, Alabama State Bar Association, and the Birmingham Bar Association. She is a board member and chaired of the Governance Committee for the Women’s Fund and is a member of Newcomen Society, Leadership Birmingham, Leadership Montgomery, Momentum Alumni Program, Junior League of Birmingham, and the University of Alabama Honors College Board of Visitors.

 

Debra received J.D. from Cumberland School of Law and her undergraduate degree from The University of Alabama.
