Graduation: Momentum Works Class 2

Last Saturday, the Momentum Works Class 2 cohorts, comprising Cohorts 1 and 2, graduated after completing tailored sessions over the past six months. Momentum Works is Momentum’s six-month leadership development program for women working in the Birmingham metro area who may be missing their potential for a variety of reasons.

Throughout the program, participants attend monthly sessions facilitated by Program Manager Raven Holloway and Momentum-approved professional trainers Kathy Boswell, Dr. Stephanie Yates and Tonya Hill Mitchell. In their final session, held just before graduation, participants learned principles to help them “Stay the Course.” The graduates were encouraged to reflect on their journey, look inward, and be intentional about maintaining their momentum moving forward.

“The journey has just begun. The Guide to Positive Sustainability works when we take the time to reflect on the information we have received and believed.”

During graduation, graduate Jareah Burrell shared a reflection in the form of a poem about her experience in Momentum Works.

“Together, let us continue this journey, inspired by example, committed to lifting each other up, and determined to create a bright future for generations to come.”

The graduating class reported salary increases totaling over $208,000. Many also reported upward mobility or promotion before graduating.

Special thanks go to our partners from the City of Birmingham, The Altec/Styslinger Foundation in partnership with Prosper, the Communication Foundation of Greater Birmingham, The Women’s Foundation of Alabama, The Hugh Kaul Foundation, and The Charles and Estelle Campbell Foundation for helping make this program tuition-free and accessible with childcare stipends for those who need it. Additionally, the Momentum staff thanks the entire team at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and Derrick Curry at Camera Play Photography.
