On Saturday, Momentum celebrated the graduation of Momentum Works Class 2, Cohorts 3 and 4. Over the past six months, 47 participants engaged in leadership development sessions exploring emotional intelligence, visualizing possibilities, resilience, going for it, and getting there.
Graduation day also marked the cohorts’ final session, “Staying the Course: The Guide to Positive Sustainability,” facilitated by Momentum’s Raven Holloway. During the session, participants reflected on their journey, looked inward, and set intentions for sustaining their momentum moving forward.
“The journey has just begun! The Guide to Positive Sustainability works when we take the time to reflect on the information we have received and believed,” Raven Holloway.
To close the session, Upward Class 5 alumna Tawanna Jones offered an inspiring send-off, encouraging participants to remain connected to one another and to Momentum.
Participants’ supporters joined graduates at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute to celebrate the progress participants have made over the past six months. Cohort 3 graduate Shauntae Lockett Lewis shared her reflections on the experience during the ceremony. Many participants shared their excitement about the opportunity the program has afforded them:
“This program is both valuable and priceless at the same time. I have been promoting Momentum with unwavering ‘momentum’. I have been pouring into others what’s been poured into me.”
“The most powerful revelation I’ve had is recognizing that I am far stronger than I ever gave myself credit for. This strength isn’t new—it’s been there all along, but this program helped me truly see it and own it.”
“ Momentum isn’t built in one leap, but in committed steps, in showing up, leaning in, and choosing progress over perfection. Consistency became my power. Reflection became my compass.”
We are grateful to board member Brenna Powell for attending and helping celebrate graduates by reading their names.
