Celebrating National Mentoring Month at Momentum

by | Jan 20, 2026 | General

In today’s workplace, mentorship is more than just professional guidance—it is one of the most powerful drivers of growth, confidence, and career advancement for women.

January is National Mentoring Month, a time to reflect and give thanks to the leaders who step up to create spaces where future leaders can connect, learn, and invest in their craft.

Women with mentors are promoted five times more often than those without. Yet, only about 37% of women report having a career mentor.

Mentoring changes careers by creating space for learning and connection. For women in the workplace, mentoring can be truly transformational.

At Momentum, we believe mentoring is crucial to helping more women advance in their careers. Women shouldn’t have to navigate their professional journeys alone. That’s why, through our free mentoring program, we connect women across experience levels with mentors who offer guidance, perspective, and encouragement.

“Mentoring has been a core component of our program since its inception. Our mentoring program has made over 1,000 mentoring matches to date,” said Momentum’s Mentor Coordinator, Darla Morrison. “Our sustainable model ensures a continuous cycle of support, allowing us to serve women in every community.”

The impact of Momentum’s mentoring program is best reflected in the experiences of the women who participate.

The Momentum Mentoring program is a gift that keeps giving. My mentor’s knowledge, guidance, and encouragement have helped me grow in my career while staying true to my values, building confidence, and laying the foundation for impactful leadership. Paying it forward as a mentor is even more rewarding. There’s nothing better than strong women investing in each other,” said Katie Fogg, Birmingham Upward Class 1.

Each month, Momentum recognizes a Mentor of the Month, highlighting individuals in our network who go above and beyond to ensure their mentees receive the best possible mentoring experience. In 2025, our Mentors of the Month were:

Ronit Ron
Tacita Thompson
Tampia Anderson
Caryn Terradas
Manisha Mishra
Jennifer Shaw
Anna Ogburn
Monique Shorts
Nikita McClain
Darlene Elliot
Mari Beth Poor
Gina Sian

Mentorship is not just an individual act of service—it is a collective investment in the future of women’s leadership. Each mentor who shows up, listens, and shares wisdom helps break down barriers and expand what is possible for the next generation of women in the workplace.

As we celebrate National Mentoring Month, we extend our deepest gratitude to the mentors who generously give their time and insight. Your commitment creates ripples of confidence, growth, and opportunity that reach far beyond a single mentoring relationship.
