Empowered to Lead: Dr. Martina Crim’s Journey in Healthcare Leadership

Martina Crim, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, a Huntsville Executive Class Two alumna, credits Momentum with inspiring her to explore other opportunities in healthcare beyond nursing. Dr. Crim is a nurse who transitioned from clinical roles to executive leadership after earning her Master of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)—Nurse Executive. A generous donor since her graduation in May, she says Momentum helped her realize the importance of continual growth and an expanded network.

“Continual learning is essential. I am fortunate to have a career working in various clinical settings and leading teams. After obtaining my doctorate in nursing, I became interested in gaining more experience and improving my business acumen in healthcare. Being surrounded and inspired by other women leaders and their approaches, I felt empowered to embark on a different career journey.”

While completing her second advanced degree, Dr. Crim learned of Momentum coming to Huntsville. She applied and was accepted, eager to learn from the program. She states that it was an indescribable experience that helped her to reflect, refocus, and create new life goals. Initially lacking confidence in her ability to transition, the statistics shared by a Momentum facilitator helped her shift her mindset, inspiring her to pursue new challenges.

“A facilitator shared statistics about how women are less likely to apply for a leadership position than men, based on feeling unqualified. The statistics resonated with me, and I thought about the numerous opportunities I had overlooked due to a lack of confidence. I changed my mindset and applied for different positions based on my experience, education, and other qualifications.”

During her time in Momentum, Dr. Crim accepted a new position in healthcare administration. She credits her experience in Momentum as a major contributor to the role she is in today. Dr. Crim felt an instant bond with the women in her class and described her experience with these women as a “sisterhood.”

“It’s important to have a trusting network for support. These ladies hold a special place in my heart. I’m forever grateful for the experiences we shared.”

During her time in Momentum, Dr. Crim’s key takeaways included learning to delegate more effectively through Vitale Hardin’s training on perfectionism, as well as finding power and inspiration from Dr. Sharon Melnick. She also learned to focus on the things she can contro or influence, set boundaries, and prioritize family time, realizing the importance of self-preservation.

Dr. Crim deeply values donating time and money to Momentum, believing in its life-changing impact. She is committed to giving back to help more women access its transformational opportunities, whether through financial support or volunteering. Driven, compassionate, generous, and a strong leader, Dr. Crim has already made an incredible impact in her community, and we look forward to seeing her continued success.
