Momentum Works Class One, Cohort One

Earlier this month, Cohort One of the inaugural Momentum Works class graduated after completing six sessions focused on personal and professional development.

Momentum Works brings Momentum’s proven leadership development framework to underserved women in the City of Birmingham who are employed but may be missing their optimal potential for a variety of reasons. Session topics included Emotional Intelligence, Strengths Assessment, Resilience, Taking Action, Negotiation & Prioritization, and Building Community. Thanks to generous funding from The City of Birmingham, Protective Life, Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, Milo’s Tea, and Wells Fargo, participants attended tuition-free, with childcare stipends made available for those who needed it.

Monthly sessions were facilitated by Program Manager, Raven Holloway, as well as Momentum-approved professional trainers Kathy Boswell, Tonya Allen, and Dr. Stephanie Yates. The cohort’s final session, titled “Stay the Course,” was led by Kathy Boswell at Creed 63 in Birmingham, followed by a memorable graduation ceremony at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. Author and motivational speaker Joyce Brooks shared a special message of encouragement to the graduates.

“We uplifted one another, grew together, and built lasting connections that will continue to inspire me. This experience was just the beginning, and I’m ready to apply what I’ve learned to continue growing, leading, and building up my community.”- LaTisha Fletcher, Innovation Team Director, City of Birmingham Mayor’s Office

40% of the cohort reported salary increases totaling more than $215,000. Of the 25 women who graduated from this life-changing program, 17 of them reported a job change. Momentum is also proud to report that participants were provided with a total of 475 training hours throughout the six month program.

Imposter Syndrome is real. Momentum changed my mindset to remove this feeling of inadequacy. Therefore, I was able to start speaking up in meetings, reaching out to market leaders for one-on-one conversations and feedback, and this action of “showing up” led to me apply for a role that was new but definitely aligned with my skills and talents.”- Tasha Cox, recently promoted to Analyst, Market Support Champion, Archwell Health

Cohort Two of Class One is well underway, with graduation scheduled for December. Each cohort of Momentum Works brings a unique blend of passion, skill, and dedication to excellence. The Momentum Team is honored to walk alongside such incredible women as they make a mark on their community and beyond.
