Graduation: Momentum Works Class One, Cohort Two

Momentum Works Class One, Cohort Two

Last month, Cohort Two of the inaugural Momentum Works class graduated after completing six sessions focused on personal and professional development.

Momentum Works brings Momentum’s proven leadership development framework to underserved women in the City of Birmingham who are employed but may be missing their optimal potential for a variety of reasons. Session topics included Emotional Intelligence, Strengths Assessment, Resilience, Taking Action, Negotiation & Prioritization, and Building Community. Thanks to generous funding from The City of Birmingham, Protective Life, Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, Milo’s Tea, and Wells Fargo, participants attended tuition-free, with childcare stipends made available for those who need it.

Monthly sessions were facilitated by Program Manager, Raven Holloway, as well as Momentum-approved professional trainers Kathy Boswell, Tonya Hill Mitchell, and Dr. Stephanie Yates. The cohort’s final session, titled “Stay the Course,” was led by Kathy Boswell at POLARIS Birmingham. Graduation followed at the historic Woodrow Hall with family, friends, and Momentum Works Cohort One women there to support. Guest speakers, Chief Ed Fields and Joyce Brooks shared powerful insights and heartfelt remarks to encourage the graduates to continue the journey with full momentum.

“I learned more about my strengths and about emotional intelligence. I learned how to acknowledge my emotions, sit with them and mitigate them so I can keep a job and maintain relationships that may assist me in accomplishing my goals. I learned how speaking up can have a positive impact on professional recognition and opportunity.”- Adrienne Fowler Payne, Momentum Works Class One, Cohort Two Graduate

Cohort Two reported salary increases totaling more than $230,000. Of the 28 women who graduated from this transformative program, 13 of them reported a job change. Momentum is also proud to report that participants were provided with a total of 532 training hours throughout the six month program.

This cohort of women demonstrated passion, strength, and a commitment to excellence in the workplace and beyond. The second class of Momentum Works, already showing their determination and resilience, is soon to embark on this life-changing program. Our team is confident they will achieve remarkable success, following in the footsteps of their inspiring predecessors.
