Ria Sethi joins Momentum this fall as the Impact & Insights Intern, where she’ll support fundraising, impact measurement, and leadership through research, data analysis, and strategic project work. She is currently pursuing her MBA at UAB’s Collat School of Business with a concentration in Health Services, building on a B.S. in Neuroscience from UAB, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. We asked a few questions to get to know her better!

What’s one piece of advice that’s stuck with you?
UAB Mental Health Ambassadors
Rest is productive.
This is something I learned firsthand as a student, and leader at Mental Health Ambassadors at UAB, where keeping mental wellbeing was the mission! Leading a team of inspired ambassadors, and with the support of my advisor Dr. Robin Lanzi, I contributed to numerous mental health initiatives on campus. Lessons and experience taught me just how real burnout can be, and how essential recharging, spending time with friends and family, and just making space for recovery is essential to showing up at your best everyday.
Personal & Fun
What do you do to recharge on the weekend?
One way I recharge is by being active! I dance competitively and am currently training for a marathon. I have also been weight lifting for over 5 years. I believe staying physically active not only sharpens the mind and lessens anxiety from daily stressors, but is another way to build community. I have met so many positive, equally motivated individuals in gym and dance settings.
Impact
Tell us about a woman who’s influenced your path.
My mom is one of my biggest role models, and the work she’s done has influenced me to work my hardest and accomplish all I set my mind to. She’s the first woman in my extended family to work outside the home, and not only did she work, she went out and got two degrees while raising three kids, and is now a lead software engineer at a defense company. I learned that you can accomplish anything with the right motivation.
Work & Process
I am already loving getting to meet and be inspired by the stories of so many accomplished, hardworking women. Seeing and hearing about the confidence Momentum has helped build in our female leaders has been inspiring me to take my own new decisions in career development. It’s already helping me expand my mindset and take agency of my future. Sitting in on the programming has taught me skills I know I will use for a lifetime.
Icebreaker/Fun
What’s a talent nobody at Momentum knows about yet?
Art! I love expressing creativity in so many ways, and that includes painting, crafts, and even graphic design. I have always been artistically inclined, whether that be in appreciating art history, participating in art shows, making crafts to gift my friends, or just painting as a treasured hobby.
I think life can be colorful if you let it, both figuratively and literally.
