Momentum was proud to host Lisa Beck Schuck in Huntsville for an engaging community workshop, “The Illusion of Certainty: Tools for Courageous Leadership in Uncertain Times”. In partnership with Innovate Alabama and hosted at the Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering, we gathered leaders together to discuss one of the workplace’s biggest communication challenges – the illusion of certainty.
Through stories, practical tools, and interactive exercises, Lisa guided participants in recognizing how assumptions can block clarity, empathy, and innovation. Attendees learned how to get certain with uncertainty, ask more effective questions, and use simple language shifts to reframe conflict. These skills offer leaders a more thoughtful and curious approach to navigating difficult situations.
Participants shared overwhelmingly positive feedback. One attendee noted, “The event challenged my existing way of thinking and will really help me grow in the future.” Another reflected, “This was a completely applicable exercise that I will be using going forward.” The breakout sessions stood out as particularly impactful, offering space to practice new communication strategies in real time.
This workshop would not have been a success without our partner, Innovate Alabama, which funded full workshop scholarships for women in STEM and innovation. Innovate Alabama is Alabama’s first statewide public-private partnership dedicated to entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation. The organization plays an important role in strengthening the state’s innovation ecosystem and we are proud to continue partnering with an organization so deeply invested in the future of innovation across our state.
